Handgun training

Ultimate Martial art?

What would be the ultimate martial art for self defense of yourself or loved ones?

In my opinion, this martial art would allow anyone with proper preparation and regardless of age, gender or physical prowess to stop single or multiple attackers from across the room with a touch of a finger.

What martial art could be this effective? The answer is DEFENSIVE HANDGUN. Preparation for this would include

1) Developing a defensive mind set

This would include understanding the legal and moral issues. Ask your lawyer, but my understanding is, if you reasonable believe that you are in imminent danger of crippling or lethal force and have no avenue of escape, only then can you use potentially lethal force to protect yourself or you loved ones. Also, You must be willing and able to exercise your second amendment rights to “Stop the Attack”.

2) Obtain training to utilize a defensive handgun safely and effectively.

This could be a NRA (National Rifleman Association) or other courses approved by your State Police authority.

3) Obtain the required legal certification in your state. This could be a LTC (License to Carry) or FID (Federal Identication) card.

4) Obtain an effect self defense handgun to fit your needs and training. This would mean a sufficiently powerful handgun that could ‘Stop the attack” with one or two shots in center mass. A recent FBI study suggested a minimum power level of 400 ft/lbs

A Basic Hand Gun course approved by your local state for “License to Carry” (LTC) will help you work through the above issues. In Mass, a State Police Trainer certification is required.

In conclusion, almost any traditional martial Arts will help develop mind, body and Spirit and self-defense skills. Remember as you train in the DoJo with the red rubber gun that knowledge of and familiarity with real firearms should be a vital part of your self-defense training.

I would imagine Asian martial arts with firearms would have pretty narrow parameters. In most of Asia, firearms are illegal. We have an entirely different scenario in America.

We are the only country in the world to have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. 80 million Americans use firearms for hunting, collecting, target practice and personal protection. Self-defense with a Firearm is only one aspect of martial arts.

Once you gain practical knowledge of Firearms in America, you have to decide what parameters you are training for. This includes moral and legal considerations. You have to decide what your Bunki is likely to be. The methods and weapons to defend against home invasion would be different then street carry in an urban setting. Rural settings would require a different skill set and weaponry. Generalizations just don’t work in America.

Step one would be to gain general expertise. I train my students for safety and firearms knowledge first. Then, safely handling and firing multiple firearms and power levels. Then you would want to train for your anticipated needs.
